To make bold and expressive wines, our family planted estate vineyards in Paso Robles and Monterey. Influenced by the winds and fog of the Pacific Ocean, these unique regions are ideal for crafting world-class wines.
Paso Robles and Monterey are geologically different from any other wine producing regions in California. Ancient oceans created the unique calcareous soils of Paso Robles. The soils of Monterey are a geological combination of weathered granite, older marine sedimentary rocks, and volcanic rocks. In both regions, soil diversity is so extreme that vineyard blocks commonly contain several different soil types, yielding rich and dynamic flavors to the grapes.
Along California’s Central Coast, the Paso Robles appellation provides an ideal climate for growing Bordeaux and Rhone varietals. A dry climate with warm days allows for complete maturation of the grapes and creates ripe fruit flavors. The maritime influence of the Pacific Ocean creates very cool nights, which preserve the natural acid balance of the grapes.
The Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco appellations of Northern Monterey provide an ideal climate for Burgundian varietals, such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The cold, deep Monterey Bay constantly influences this region with cool winds and heavy fog.
4th generation winemaker Anthony Riboli received his M.S. in Viticulture from the University of California, Davis and joined the family business in 1998.
Head Winemaker Arnaud Debons worked in the Bordeaux and Cahors regions of France after graduating from the prestigious winemaking program at the University of Toulouse.
