The Inspiring Story Behind Maddalena Restaurant

Founded in 1974, Maddalena Restaurant represents a heartfelt extension of San Antonio Winery’s rich family legacy, brought to life through the incredible vision of our matriarch, Maddalena Riboli. Born in the prestigious wine region of Piedmont, Italy, in 1922, Maddalena immigrated to America in 1929 at just seven years old, carrying with her the authentic culinary traditions of her homeland.

After marrying Stefano Riboli in 1946, Maddalena became an essential driving force behind the winery’s expansion and success. She championed the revolutionary idea of pairing fine California wines with authentic, home-style Italian cuisine, creating Los Angeles’ first true winery restaurant experience. Her vision transformed San Antonio Winery from a simple wine producer into a complete culinary destination.

Continuing the Family Culinary Tradition

Carrying her mother’s culinary vision into the next generation, Cathy Riboli-Colombatti, Maddalena’s devoted daughter, has played a vital role in developing and expanding our restaurant and hospitality operations. Under Cathy’s leadership, the restaurant has grown while maintaining its authentic Italian character and family atmosphere.
