This past Sunday, the San Antonio Winery officially kicked off this holiday season with our annual holiday food pairing event. This four hour event featured seven delicious courses paired with seven incredible San Antonio Winery wines. Guests were invited to come enjoy traditional holiday foods from around the world and that is exactly what they experienced.

Holiday pairing 1

The first course was a delicious African Black Eyed Pea Salad, paired with a light and crisp white wine, Fontana Gina Pinot Grigio. Not only did this pairing enhance the food, but acted as an aperitif for the following courses.

Oven roasted turkey is always a classic for the holiday season, and it did not disappoint as our second course. Paired with the San Simeon Viognier, the oven roasted turkey was cooked to perfection, and being paired with this wine brought out the natural flavors of the meat and enhanced the tasty gravy poured on top.

Everyone loves holiday food, and everyone loves pizza, so the third course did not disappoint. “Lahmajoon” is an Armenian lamb pizza. This traditional meal was paired with our Maddalena Zinfandel, a beautiful red wine with notes of raspberry, spicy black plum, and oak spice which bring out the delicious tastes of the lamb and spices in the pizza.

For our next course, we moved on to Chinese food; a Chinese-style roast duck, to be exact. This delicious plate paired perfectly with our Maddalena Merlot, balancing the gamey texture of the duck, with the bold red wine.

If we weren’t satisfied already, our next course made the night. Italian braised short rib ravioli paired with the San Simeon Petite Sirah was a match made in heaven. This wine easily pairs with most dishes, but the rich, full-bodied character brought out the delectable flavors of the short rib and the hint of sweetness from the ravioli pasta.

Our sixth course was the perfect way to end this savory train, with traditional chicken tamales and Bodega sangria, this pairing was a fiesta to taste.

Holiday pairing 11

For a sweet ending to our holiday pairing, we had Stella Rosa Platinum with Filipino Banana Lumpia. This pairing was sweet, crisp, refreshing, and the perfect end to an incredible event.

A special thank you to our incredible Chef Greg and tasting room manager, Dominic Menton, for putting together this unbelievable menu and pairing them with our exquisite wines. This was definitely an event that got us thinking about our holiday menu!
