Los Angeles’ Maddalena Restaurant is a real piece of history that sits in a very unique location: the San Antonio Winery. To give you a little background, San Antonio Winery is a 98 year old family founded, owned, and run winery, one of the few wineries in the U.S. to 1) be this long-running and 2) to survive Prohibition in the 1930s.

The family at San Antonio Winery is the Riboli Family. Matriarch Maddalena Riboli was a powerful visionary for the company who knew a wealth of information not just about winemaking, but also about cooking. She grew up learning traditional and authentic Italian cooking with her mother and grandmother. And in 1970, as her winery was thriving and family expanding, she opened up her very own Maddalena Restaurant inside the winery.

The Maddalena Restaurant today serves up authentic Italian and American meals, including Maddalena’s famous ravioli and lasagna dishes. Aside from hearty pastas, there are gourmet salads, artisan sandwiches, tender meats, and homemade desserts.

The décor and ambiance of the restaurant are an added elegance. Century-old redwood casks line the walls, lights are slightly dimmed, and there is often live jazz music to enjoy. Dining at the Maddalena Restaurant is really an experience like no other and patrons will forget that they’re in Los Angeles and not a beautiful Italian town.
